Joong Home Centre opened in Portmore in 2017. We're part of a 3.5-acre complex at 68 New Land Road that employs over 80 people from the surrounding community — most of them have been with us from day one.
Family-run, prices & service
The Chung family has run shops in Jamaica for decades — starting in Morant Bay, St. Thomas, where the original supermarket sat beside a small hardware store. That's where the family learned the hardware business, brick by brick.
When we opened the Portmore Home Centre in 2017, the brief was simple: stock the things people actually need to finish the house, the room, or the job. Sell at fair prices. Answer the phone. Don't dress it up.
What we stock
The 3.5-acre site holds the full house catalogue:
- Building supplies — cement, steel, sand, blocks, rebar. Trade quantities for contractors and one-bag retail for homeowners, on the same shelves.
- Paint & coatings — indoor, outdoor, primer, the accessories that go with it. Most major Caribbean paint brands in stock. Colour matched on site.
- Fixtures & tools — hand tools, power tools, screws, fasteners, locks, hinges, plumbing fittings.
- Garden & outdoor — soil, fertilizer, plants, hoses, wheelbarrows, sprayers. From a window box to a full yard.
- Kitchenware & home — the everyday house things you'd rather not drive to town for.
- Gas cylinder exchange — drop the empty, pick up a refill, walk back out in a few minutes.
Why customers call us first
Director Ryan Chung said it in the Jamaica Observer when we opened: good customer service is missing across a lot of the construction trade in Jamaica. That's the gap we set out to fill. Practically, it means three things:
- We pick up the WhatsApp. Send us what you need, we tell you what's on the shelf today and what it costs. Saves you the drive.
- Same shelves, same prices. A homeowner buying one bag of garden soil and a contractor pulling 200 bags of cement get the same hello and the same straight pricing.
- People who know the stock. The same staff have been here from the start. If they don't know where something is, they know who does.
